What is Family Violence Prevention Month For?

Why The
Colour Purple?

SPARK25-FVPM-03.png

Alberta has the third-highest rate of

self-reported spousal violence among Canadian provinces, yet family violence is preventable. November is Family Violence Prevention Month (FVPM) in Alberta. It is a time to increase awareness of the warning signs of family violence and the available resources and supports, so we can work together to end family violence and build healthier relationships in our communities.

Purple is the symbolic colour for Family Violence Prevention Month (November in Alberta, Canada), representing courage, survival, and hope for victims and survivors. Communities participate by wearing purple clothing, displaying purple lights, or using purple ribbons and other symbols to raise awareness, honour those affected by domestic violence, and send a message that such violence is unacceptable.

Offer Your Support.

ATTEND EVENTS HAPPENING THROUGHOUT NOVEMBER:

Don't Participate in Degradation.
